  Heat a skillet to medium heat.

  When the skillet is hot, add the olive oil. When the oil begins to shimmer, carefully put the egg into the skillet, taking care not to break the yolk. Breaking the egg into a small bowl first can make it easier.

  Cover the skillet with a lid and let the egg continue to cook for about 3 to 5 minutes. When all of the egg whites turn opaque, remove the fried egg from the skillet.
